Nope Book Tag

I never heard of this tag but I’ve been tagged by Karen @sincerelykarenjo. Feel free to check out her blog for other bookish stuff!

Now, I’m going to start by including a disclaimer: My answers to this tag are a bunch of my opinions. Not a fact. And since were all entitled to an opinion, my opinion is as valid as yours. Nobody’s right or wrong regardless of whether you agree with me (or not). So without further ado, here are my unpopular opinions/answers to the tag:

NOPE. ending: A book ending that made you go NOPE either in denial, rage or simply because the ending was crappy.

NOPE. protagonist: A main character you dislike and drives you crazy.

  • Aelin Galathynius (Whitethorn). Please don’t make me explain it. I liked her at some point but it drove me mad reading through the series after Crown of Midnight.

NOPE. series: A series that turned out to be a huge pile of nope after you’ve invested all of that time and energy on it.

  • Throne of Glass. Once Empire of Storms was released and I skimmed through the first few chapters at Target, I just knew that I don’t know who these characters were anymore. Their character development was drastically different. It was as if they were replaced with new characters, not the same characters that went through character development. If that makes any sense…

NOPE. pairing: A “ship” you don’t support

Just a few on top of my head…

  • Evie Greene x Sam Lloyd (Diviners series)
    • I’m still not okay after he robbed her and stole a kiss at the same time during their first interaction. Stealing, apparently, is a HUGE turn-off for me. Haha. I don’t know man, they’re not fairies or supernatural beings. I can’t let this go.
  • Aelin x Rowan (Throne of Glass series)
    • Surprisingly, he’s not Rhysand to me unlike what others may say. Rowan is apparently another alpha male I can’t stand. For some reason, I can stand Rhysand. Haha. I don’t understand myself sometimes.
  • Alina x Mal (Grisha series)
    • Unsupportive of Alina and was only there when she finally rose to the top as the sun summoner. Before that, she was just a best friend while he shamelessly gawks over other beautiful girls and/or grishas like Zoya and allowing other people (like his friends) to look down at Alina because of how she looks. He only starts caring once Alina was an important person and when he was finally “left behind.”
  • Evie Greene x Jackson Deveaux (Arcana Chronicles)
    • I don’t like alpha males in general but I really cannot stand Jackson. I can stand Rowan more than this guy.

NOPE. plot twist: A twist you didn’t see coming and didn’t like.

  • SO many in This Mortal Coil! HA. I won’t be spoiling though as the series is still fairly new and I’ve already mentioned enough spoilers in my review.

NOPE. genre: A genre you will never read.

  • I think I’ve read all genres…

NOPE. book format: A book format you hate and avoid buying until it comes out in a different edition.

  • None. Depends on the cover (not the format), tbh.

NOPE. trope: A trope that makes you go NOPE.

  • The “Jericho Barrons” or “Jackson Deveaux” trope. Meaning the alpha male trope. But sometimes it really depends on the character. There are some alpha males in new adult and/or ya I can stand.

NOPE. recommendation: A book recommendation that is constantly pushed at you, that you simply refuse to read.

  • Eleanor Herman’s Blood of Gods and Royals series and Circe by Madeline Miller. Not really into the Legacy of Kings and I’m not interested in reading a retelling of Circe.

NOPE. cliché: A cliché or writing pet peeve that always makes you roll your eyes.

  • Girl on girl hate because of a guy. An example is from the Poison Princess (Arcana Chronicles #1).

NOPE. love interest: A love interest that’s not worthy of being one.

  • Jackson Deveaux comes to mind. This is a matter of opinion.

NOPE. book: A book that shouldn’t have existed.

  • Any book after Twilight. I thought Twilight was good as a stand-alone.

NOPE. villain: A villain you would hate to cross.

  • It’s going to be easy making the wrong choice here. But I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t want to meet Scythe Goddard and his followers because there would be no reason to spare me. Unless of course, when I’m useful or if he gleaned members of my fam.

NOPE. death: A character death that still haunts you.

  • Not sure I want to say because it’s spoilery…

NOPE. author: An author you had a bad experience reading and have decided to quit.

  • I have none. However, I don’t think I’ll be reading any of Victoria Aveyard’s books anymore. Simply because I just wasn’t satisfied with War Storm. I have a feeling that I also wouldn’t enjoy reading her other books (if she does releases a different one). Just saying what’s on top of my head. There are of course, other books from certain authors I constantly avoid because of the genre.

Finally, tagging a few people:

~ Lily @sprinkesofdreams
Brianna @briannathebookworm
Sahi @ksahitya
Emily @wickedgoodreads
~ Rebecca @bookishlyrebecca

And you, whoever’s reading this right now.
Feel free to do this tag (or not).

Now, a little reading update from me: I’m currently behind in my reading schedule. I haven’t read a book in days after watching the new Meteor Garden from Netflix and rewatching two seasons of Hanayori Dango. I have yet to see the film but since I’m behind in my reading (and some of my reviews), I’ll be doing some reading in my spare time.

  1. Thank you for the tag! 🙂

I have never read Throne of Glass, but I’m glad to hear a different opinion on it; everyone hypes it up a lot and I always wonder if it’s really that good.

Also, I hate it when girls hate each other because of a guy! That’s the worst.

  2. Thank you for tagging me! I think I did this one a long time ago but maybe I’ll do an updated version!

Makes me a little nervous to read The Hating Game. Coupled with the hype, there’s a lot riding on that book lol

  3. Ohh how do you like Meteor Garden? And ngl, I’m kind of sad about you not wanting to read Circe, but I also totally understand! It’s definitely not for everyone. 🙂

Thanks so much for tagging me for this, Claire! ❤
