Can’t Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by @wishfulendings to feature exciting (upcoming) book releases. I know that it’s been a while since I posted something like this. Haha. This is going to be the first out of many… So without further ado, let’s begin:
Ivy Gamble has never wanted to be magic. She is perfectly happy with her life—she has an almost-sustainable career as a private investigator, and an empty apartment, and a slight drinking problem. It’s a great life and she doesn’t wish she was like her estranged sister, the magically gifted professor Tabitha.
But when Ivy is hired to investigate the gruesome murder of a faculty member at Tabitha’s private academy, the stalwart detective starts to lose herself in the case, the life she could have had, and the answer to the mystery that seems just out of her reach
“Magic for Liars” sounds like my next favorite read. I’ve read books like “The Magicians” that reminds me of this one. But one book that reminds me MORE of this novel was Kat Howard’s “An Unkindness of Magicians” because of the mystery + dangerous secrets + investigations (by the main character). Additionally, some are gifted with magic and others not so much. If you like the books I’ve mentioned above, then “Magic for Liars” is a book you might want to own and keep in your bookshelf.
But one thing that drew me in the story was the magic school. It’s definitely a lot more mature than a “Harry Potter” novel. The author’s writing had also been incredibly atmospheric but at the same time, not too flowery. It was also easy to get into the story. Needless to say, I will definitely be reading more books from this author.
I’m really trying to sell this book so I have someone to talk to about this book. I hope this book doesn’t disappoint. Haha. This just sounds like a thrilling read overall.
